A rare painting by Pablo Picasso is being offered in a charity raffle, giving participants the chance to win a work worth over $1 million for a ticket priced at just €100.
The raffle features “Tête de Femme,” painted in 1941, with 120,000 tickets available ahead of the April 14 draw. Proceeds will go toward supporting an Alzheimer’s research foundation.
Details
This marks the third edition of the “1 Picasso for €100” initiative, previously launched for various humanitarian causes:
• The 2013 edition supported the preservation of the historic city of Tyre in southern Lebanon.
• The 2020 edition funded clean water programs during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Olivier Widmaier Picasso, the artist’s grandson, said the piece was created in the same studio where Guernica was produced, noting its true value exceeds current estimates.
The artwork, measuring approximately 38 by 25 cm, depicts a face in Picasso’s distinctive Cubist style, using shades of gray that reflect a period of artistic introspection during World War II in Paris.
Organizers confirmed that the winner will have full ownership rights, including the option to keep, exhibit, or resell the piece, as seen in the first edition when the winner chose to display it in a museum.
What’s Next?
Attention is now drawn to the raffle outcome and whether the initiative will continue attracting wide interest in future editions.
